What is Ectopic Pregnancy?

When the fertilized egg is attached to itself, outside the uterus is called Ectopic Pregnancy. Almost all ectopic pregnancies are occur in fallopian tube i.e. Ectopic pregnancy is also known as Tubal Pregnancy. The fallopian tubes are not designed to hold the fertilized egg; therefore it cannot develop properly and must be treated.

Treatment of ectopic pregnancy: –

The ectopic pregnancy can be treated by following methods –

• Expectant management
• Medication
• Surgical

EXPECTANT MANAGEMENT: – If you have no symptoms or mild symptoms of ectopic pregnancy or you have very early pregnancy then you may only need to be closely monitored. For this, you have to regular blood tests to check your hCG levels, hormones levels.

MEDICATION: – if the ectopic pregnancy is detected early, Methotrexate may be given, which allows the body to absorb the pregnancy tissue or stop the cell growth. This method may save the fallopian tube.

SURGICAL: – if the ectopic pregnancy is causing heavy vaginal bleeding or fallopian tube has ruptured. In this case, bleeding needs to stopped which is treated with laparoscopic surgery in which small or all part of fallopian tube is removed.
